International Wildlife Photographer of the Year: Closing
Last Chance to See this Breathtaking Exhibit! |
|
Closing Mon., Sept. 4, 2006 Support for the final weekend showing is provided by US Bank. The Burke Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year - Award Winners exhibit from England is closing on Mon., Sept. 4. Don’t miss your last opportunity to see the international exhibit of 90 wildlife photographs taken by photographers from around the world, depicting wildlife in its amazing natural state. An internationally recognized contest, Wildlife Photographer of the Year – Award Winners, is organized by the Natural History Museum, London and England’s BBC Wildlife Magazine. The annual contest attracted 17,000 entries in 2005 from professional and amateur photographers from over 55 countries worldwide. The selected photographs are chosen in 14 categories, including animal portraits, plants, animal behavior, the underwater world, wild places, urban wildlife, nature in black and white, young wildlife photographers (ages 17 and younger), and an overall contest winner. Each image is captioned with the photographer's account of the story behind the picture, including the motivation, vision, and technical details. By showcasing a selection of the winning and commended images each year, the London–based competition celebrates the diversity of wildlife, the beauty of nature, and the art of wildlife photography on a global scale. "It's a way to find harmony and peace," Manuel Presti of Italy, the competition's overall winner says of wildlife photography. It’s a way "to move emotions and lead people towards a greater sensitivity to the natural world." The exhibit was sponsored locally by The Boeing Company, 4 Culture, the Hugh and Jane Ferguson Foundation, the Nesholm Family Foundation, and US Bank. For more information see the exhibit web site. |
