Teachings of the Tree People: The Work of Bruce Miller
A production of IslandWood Media (2006) |
|
Now – December 31, 2006 The Burke Museum is dedicated to creating a better understanding of the world and our place in it. In light of this mission, the museum is proud to feature this unique film that teaches respect for, and awareness of, the First Nations peoples and the diversity of life in the Puget Sound region. The film will be shown continuously on a screen in the BioDiversity Lab during the museum's regular hours - through December 31st. It is included with admission. Stools are provided. Stop by the BioDiversity Lab and enjoy the film! In this film, nationally-acclaimed artist and Skokomish tribal leader, Gerald Bruce Miller (subiyay), has interpreted the sacred teachings of the natural world for anyone who wanted to learn. A passionate student of traditional culture, Bruce has become the bearer of the language, oral history, art, and spirituality of the tuwaduq (Twana) and Southern Coast Salish peoples. This gentle and generous film documents his race against time and ailing health to pass the knowledge of his ancestors on to those who would listen. This 58-minute film was produced and directed by Katie Jennings of IslandWood, an innovative outdoor learning center on Bainbridge Island. If interested in obtaining a copy of the film, please call IslandWood at (206) 855-4300. |
