Naturalist and award-winning Seattle-based photographer Paul Bannick will present a slide show and will sign his new book The Owl and the Woodpecker: Encounters with North America's Most Iconic Birds at the Burke Museum. The Owl and the Woodpecker offers a unique blend of personal field notes, rich natural history, and stunning photographs of all 41 species of owls and woodpeckers across 11 habitats.

Bannick's book, released this fall, has already been met with critical acclaim. Ted Williams, Editor-at-Large for Audubon Magazine, calls The Owl and the Woodpecker a "monumental work of photojournalism by one of North America's top wildlife photographers. The images you'll encounter in this book are the result of an encyclopedic knowledge of birds and their habitats, an intense love of nature, and endless patience. For anyone who appreciates wild things and wild places, each of Bannick's stunning photographs is worth ten thousand words."

Join Bannick, who captures many of his images kayaking, hiking, or snowshoeing around the Pacific Northwest, for a special inside look at some of North America's most iconic birds. He will share fascinating stories from the field along with some of his best photographs. Following the presentation, Paul will be available to sign copies of his book.

The Owl and the Woodpecker was published by The Mountaineers Books. The book features a forward by Tony Angell and audio by Martyn Stewart.
