Plan your group visit to great exhibits and hands-on learning experiences.

Before arranging a group visit, please read the general information below. Then, request your tour online. (Or reserve by phone: 206-543-5591.)

Reservations are required for all groups of 10 or more. At least two weeks advance notice is required for Guided or Discovery tours and is recommended for Self-Guided group visits. No group tours are available on the first Thursday of the month.

Group Size: Minimum 10 students for self-guided tours; 15 students for all other tours. Maximum 60 students or adults per gallery. Please call to discuss alternate arrangements for larger groups.

Group Rates: Group rates are determined by tour type. Please see tour descriptions. Minimum rates do apply. Scholarships are available.

New payment information for 2008-2009: We have changed our payment procedures for group visits. We no longer accept cash or checks at the door on the day of your visit. Payment options include pre-paying or billing. Please use one of the following methods of payment:

  • Credit card
  • Purchase order
  • Check

As in the past, the total tour charge is based on the number of students you schedule. The amount due will be changed on the day of your visit to reflect the actual number of students attending. Payment is due within 30 days of the date of your visit. If you have pre-paid for your visit, a receipt will be available when you arrive, and a "student rain check" will be provided for absent students.

Cancellations: If you need to cancel for any reason or if you will arrive late, please call 206-543-5591 as soon as possible. If you do not cancel your guided tour at least one day in advance, or fail to arrive as scheduled, a $20.00 penalty fee is charged.

Chaperones: We request one adult for every 5 students visiting the museum and they will be admitted at no charge.

Confirmation: Two to four weeks before your visit, a confirmation packet will be sent containing an invoice, general information about your visit, and any curriculum materials developed for your program. The general information is also available here: Nuts & bolts, Parking flyer, and Notes for chaperones.

Food: There are no indoor eating facilities for groups. Large picnic tables adjacent to the museum are available on a "first come, first served" basis. Indoor eating facilities are located in other campus buildings. We'll give you directions.

Location and Parking: The Burke is located on the northwest corner of the University of Washington campus at NE 45th St. & 17th Ave. NE (click here for a map). School buses are allowed to park at no charge. All other parking is pro-rated, please see UW parking services for more information

To request disability accommodations, contact the DSO office at least 10 days in advance: 206-543-6450 (voice); 206-543-6452 (tty); 206-685-3885 (fax); dso@u.washington.edu (e-mail).

If you plan to carpool: Due to various campus construction projects, automobile parking around the museum is on a space-available basis.  Please call us within a week of your tour for an update on any parking information changes that may occur between the time you reserve your visit and its scheduled date.

Scholarships: Limited funds are available to assist groups requesting reduced admission. Please call 206-543-5591 for information and an application.
