Mammals of Washington State Elementary Educators Workshop, April 2008Dr. Jim Kenagy, curator of Mammals, led 20 teachers on a day of hands-on learning about the mammal orders, the study of mammalogy, and the Burke Museum mammalogy collection. In this interactive workshop, teachers explored the activities that accompany the new Mammals of Washington Burke Box. This workshop was the second in a series to introduce new traveling study collections developed for the Burke Boxes program.. Peoples of the Plateau Educator Workshop, April 2008 A special, full-day workshop led by Native artists from the Columbia River Plateau. Rocks and Minerals of Washington State Teacher Workshop, March 2008The Burke's Curator of Invertebrate Paleontology, Dr. Liz Nesbitt, led twenty nine teachers through the Burke's Life and Times exhibit focusing on geology basics and how they apply to Washington State. Participants explored the new Rocks and Minerals of Washington Burke Box practicing classroom activities designed specifically for use with the box. This workshop was the first in a series to introduce new traveling study collections developed for the Burke Museum in a Box program. Educator Open House, Feb. 2008More than 80 people took advantage of this relaxed, after-hours event, which included refreshments, hands-on activities, and Education staff to acquaint teachers with Burke Education resources. Washington's Web of Life Teacher Workshop, Dec. 2007As snow drifted down on the University of Washington campus, 26 teachers were busy thinking about ways to connect their students to Washington's incredible diversity of life. Día de Muertos: Traditional Arts for Your Classroom, Oct. 2007 Twenty-five local teachers had the unique opportunity to learn about Dìa de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, from two local Mexican artists.
