African Art

Description: Items in the collection include Zulu bracelets, spoons, beadwork charm, a belt, melon seed bag, finger piano, wooden cup from Zaire; wooden headrest from Zimbabwe; and a wooden rhino from South Africa. There also are 20 slides of African art.

Alaskan Arctic

Description: A labret (lip ornament), pair of snow goggles, pair of sealskin boots, kayak model, model snowshoes, and several other artifacts are included in this kit, along with 20 slides and a curriculum packet from the Smithsonian Institution titled, Of Kayaks and Ulus.

Ancient Writing

Description: This collection contains a 1/3-size replica of the Rosetta Stone with Egyptian hieroglyphics, Egyptian demotic script, classical Greek writing, and replicas of small clay tablets with Sumerian pictographs and Assyrian cuneiforms.

Australia

Description: This collection includes stone axe blade, wooden boomerang, bark painting, churinga, red ochre sample, spear thrower, and totemic carvings.




China

Description: This collection includes chopsticks, a jacket, an embroidered cloth, a bamboo basket, writing stone and ink, ceramic bowl, paper money, a wooden statue, snuff bottle, comb, and Buddhist prayer beads.

Day of the Dead

Description: One of Mexico's most important festivals is the theme of this collection. It includes artifacts, several craft samples, a video, maps, posters, books, recipes, and classroom activity suggestions in a comprehensive teacher packet.

Japan

Description: This collection includes objects and publications from the last 25 years in Japan. Included are chopsticks, a rice bowl, geta shoes, a kimono, lunch box, rice paddle, doll, tea cup, writing set, kite, tabi socks, and a metal teapot.

Mexico

Description: This collection includes everyday articles from a region of Mexico, such as clothing, kitchen implements, folk arts, and toys.
