|
|
More than 80 students of all ages learned about rocks and minerals and the Native People of the Columbia River Plateau in group activities led by Burke Museum educators. Hands-on exploration stations were available around the museum, giving students the opportunity to explore the museum's collections relating to biodiversity, Northwest Coast Native cultures, and the natural history of Washington State. Those who RSVP'd received a very special treat from Qdoba Restaurant – a coupon for a free kids' meal! Thanks Qdoba! |

Homeschool Day was a resounding success, with 104 students and 76 parents participating in a day of learning and fun. The day featured activities in the Burke Room, hands-on learning with docents using fossils and artifacts in the exhibits, and a variety of experiments, crafts, scavenger hunts, and sketching activities. Educator Dana Beaudry led a presentation about giant squid, including building a life-size model of a giant squid. Then students learned about salmon and made a model fish trap with educator Keely Gnagy. Finally, educator Tim Stetter finished up with a Conservation Challenge game based on the Yellowstone to Yukon exhibit. |
