We are studying Recent foraminifera from Puget Sound, from samples taken by the Washington Department of Ecology over the last 10 years on the Puget Sound Ambient Monitoring Program. Microbiota are the foundation of any ecosystem, and are critical in understanding ecological welfare of any locale. With this set of samples we can track changes in the benthic physical systems of the South over the last decade. We are each concentrating on different areas in order to construct the first baseline microbiota map of the Sound and relate that to the physical parameters studied by state ecologists.
