General Distribution: Formerly widespread in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Range in Washington: North Cascades, rare.
Habitat: Montane forests.
Diet: Omnivorous.
Habitats: Hibernates.
Identification: Black to yellowish-brown. Total length: 180-200 cm; tail: about 75 mm; mass: 145-680 kg.
Conservation Status: State Endangered; Federal Threatened.
