Order Carnivora, Family Mustelidae

General Distribution: United States and Canada. Introduced into Europe, British Isles, and Siberia.
Range in Washington: Statewide.
Habitat: Near water.
Diet: Fish, small mammals.
Habitats: Swims very well and often hunts in water.
Identification: Larger than weasels, brown belly, white spotting on chin and throat. Total length: 50-75 cm; tail: 15-20 cm; mass: 700-1600 g.
