Subarctic waters of the northern Pacific Ocean, Bering and Okhotsk Seas, and Sea of Japan.
Range in Washington:
Pacific coast.
Habitat:
Rocky shores and coastal waters along them.

Fish.
Identification:
Largest eared seal; face otter-like; bulls buff above, reddish below; cows brown.
Total length: males 270-320 cm, females 190-220 cm; mass: males up to 1000 kg, females 270-375 kg.
