In the Information Age, almost every profession is becoming an information profession. One example that may surprise you is the college coach. How does a coach or recruiter evaluate potential players? How do they know what factors will really make a difference in how a player will contribute to the team? How do they weigh the scouting reports and "intangibles" like work ethic against hard statistics?

When you look at sports recruiting through “information-colored glasses,” you learn that the statistics and data are just the start. Coaches have to determine what’s relevant and reliable while keeping it all organized, the kind of work that’s the specialty of information professionals.

Information School Dean Emeritus Mike Eisenberg will explore how the study of information can inform and explain the complex world of college recruiting, and how it can be used to help coaches find the best players for their teams, and student-athletes find the best schools for their education.

The Information in Sports event is free, but advance registration is required - register online now to reserve your spot.
