Paul Hill - The Future of Public Education in Big Cities, 3:00 p.m.
John and Marguerite Corbally Professor and Director, Center on Reinventing Public Education
Hill will explore issues in education now and into the future. Why are people in Seattle and other big cities so concerned about their public schools? Is the achievement gap between poor and middle class children as bad as claimed? Are programs like No Child Left Behind and charter schools likely to make the situation better or worse?
Norm Rice - Transportation: Where are we going?, 4:00 p.m.
Distinguished Practitioner in Residence and Former City of Seattle Mayor
Rice will share his experience as a Governor-appointed co-chair of the Regional Transportation Committee. This nine member commission was given the charge to develop a proposal for a regional transportation governing entity and a comprehensive regional transportation finance plan.
