Join us for a celebration of the past and future of the Department of Communication. 2007 marks the anniversary of two very important events - in 1907 the first journalism class was taught here and in 1957 a group of Communication students created a time capsule. On Saturday, we will share the contents of the 1957 time capsule and dedicate a new time capsule, kicking off a celebration of 50 years of Communication. All alumni and members of the community are welcome.
The keynote speaker is Tim Egan, a 1981 graduate of the department. Egan, a former editor at The Daily is the Pacific Northwest enterprise reporter for The New York Times and a renowned author. He is the 2006 recipient of the National Book Award in nonfiction and a 2001 Pulitzer Prize winner for reporting.
There will be tours of The Daily offices and interactive displays.
