University of Washington faculty, staff, alumni and students will be joining together in community service projects on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on January 15, 2007.
Alumni are encouraged to participate with their family and friends, teaming up with students and others in the University community. Volunteers can sign up as individuals or groups on particular projects through online registration. Project Leaders will help coordinate day of event volunteers on each project, and can let volunteers know whether children are welcome on a particular assignment.
More than 1,000 volunteers contributed their time to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in 2006, and we’re hoping for another day of robust participation in 2007! It’s a great chance for alumni to engage with students and staff in a multitude of projects benefiting all.
Past projects have included repackaging bulk food for Northwest Harvest, painting and cleaning Sacajawea Elementary School, and doing yard work for a mental health treatment facility.
The Day of Service begins with a kickoff at 8 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. departure for project sites. The service work begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m.
