On Thursday, April 11, the Purple & Gold Society enjoyed its annual Tulip Tour, a fun outing to the beautiful Skagit Valley tulip fields. Almost 50 participants traveled by bus to Mount Vernon, accompanied by two master gardeners from Washington State University. The guides helped educate visitors on the specifics of the display, which was at its peak season. The trip was further enhanced by a rare warm, sunny day.
The Purple & Gold Society is comprised of UW graduates of 50 years ago or more, and is led by Carin Steckler, '48. The event was organized by Agnes Festin Wicknick, '51, '54, and included a salmon lunch at the Hillcrest Park Lodge in scenic La Conner. Highlights included an impromptu visit by the proprietor of Tulip Town, who stepped on the bus to say a few words, and a great time was had by all.
Interested in getting involved with the Purple & Gold Society? Graduates of 1956 or before are encouraged to contact Karla Tofte, ktofte@u.washington.edu, or 206-685-2704.
