UWAA Volunteers Serve Up a Great Start to Fall Quarter

We're always working on fun ways to connect with students, and each year our Husky Sundae and First Day in Red Square events do just that!

This year's 5th annual Husky Sundae had a full crew of volunteers turn out to scoop ice cream and make root beer floats on the afternoon of Sunday, September 25. The Husky Sundae event is held each year on the Sunday before the first day of fall quarter, and helps welcome new students and their families who are attending the Freshman Convocation, exploring campus, or returning to the dorms.

This year's participants enjoyed a beautiful, warm fall day and music by the steel drum band the Toucans as they took in some ice cream and sunshine. Our able team of volunteers had their hands full, with approximately 2,500 students and their families stopping in throughout the afternoon.

We followed up with First Day at Red Square, a fun way to greet students on Wednesday, September 28, the first morning of fall quarter. Volunteers handed out bagels, coffee and directions to dazed and grateful students in the brisk morning air, and helped ease first-day jitters with their friendly greetings.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped get the school year off to a great start!
