New Budget Has Some UW Improvements But No North Sound Campus

When the Legislature passed its 2008 supplemental operating and capital budgets March 13, it included $5.3 million in new resources for the UW—$2 million in additional operating support and $3.3 million in additional capital funds. The University received $1 million in new funding to support the creation of an eScience Institute and $3 million for land acquisition and soils remediation on the UW Tacoma campus. While legislation to establish a new UW North Sound branch campus in Snohomish County did not pass, the budget provided $100,000 to the state's Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop a recommendation for a permanent site.
