Last Month's Answer
In the October 2004 edition of UW NewsLinks, we asked when did the UW hold its first "homecoming" event?
- 1910
- 1915
- 1920
- 1925
- 1930
The correct answer is #1. The first University of Washington Homecoming was held on June 14, 1910. According to an article in the Washington Alumnus, about 300 alumni were expected to show up for an alumni versus faculty baseball game, an alumni track meet and a dinner. "These 'home-coming' events are made much of in older institutions and should not be treated lightly here because of Washington's lesser years," the magazine's editor noted.
