Gilbertson Out as Football Coach; Search Begins for Replacement
UW Athletics Director Todd Turner announced Nov. 1 that Football Coach Keith Gilbertson will step down at the end of the season on Nov. 20 and that a search has begun for a replacement. $13 Million Grant Helps Move Medical Breakthroughs to Average Patient
Translating the latest advances in research into better health care for the average patient is challenging: the explosive growth of biological knowledge and technology moves slowly, if at all, into the health care practitioner's office. A new clinical research career development program at the UW, recently funded with a $13 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, may help resolve this problem.

Beam Me Out, Scotty: Propulsion System Could Mean High-Speed Space Travel
A new method of space travel could dramatically cut the time needed for astronauts to travel to and from Mars, UW researchers announced in October. The new propulsion system could make humans a permanent fixture in space. With magnetized-beam plasma propulsion, or "mag-beam," quick trips to distant parts of the solar system could become routine.
