From the Boardroom
As we ring in 2012, we have a LOT to reflect on from 2011!
During the past year, the Alumnae Board members have had their proverbial hard hats on, working to restructure our beloved Board and implement a new closer partnership with the UW Alumni Association. This work and collaboration have led the board to a significant milestone: we are thrilled to announce that we have established the University of Washington Alumnae Board Scholarship Endowment Fund via the UW Foundation.
Establishing an endowment not only cements the impact the UWAB has had on the University and its promising students over the past 65 years, it also guarantees the UWAB legacy will continue on in perpetuity and is forever embedded in the University. We have set up the endowment to allow our funds to grow more quickly in the future by allowing interest to accrue on our account.
Our board structure has gone from a large board led by a President, Past-President, and President-Elect to a Volunteer "Committee" structure, with leadership vested in an Executive Leadership Committee (ELC). The ELC now has a Chair (open position), Co-Chair held by Deanna Heinrich, and three sub-committees each with a chair and co-chair:
- the Scholarship Selection Committee led by Marcia Proctor
- the Scholarship Stewardship Committee led by Angie Wallace
- the Events Committee led by Christy Austin
During a board retreat in December, we officially launched our new Chair search, and we are always looking for new volunteers to serve on our sub-committees. We encourage you to introduce any interested volunteers or possible Chair prospects to UWAA Director of Alumni Relations Kyle Funakoshi at firstname.lastname@example.org or Co-Chair Deanna Heinrich at email@example.com. Meet the NEW BOARD!
