Message from the Director
Now that the holidays are over, it's time to start planning your travel adventures for 2006!
Since our last Travel E-news, we have added a very exciting trip to India, a third departure to China (with Tibet and a Yangtze River cruise), and a special opportunity to travel with popular UW Professor Terje Leiren on a Norwegian coastal cruise.
There is also room on spring trips to the Adriatic, Sorrento and Orvieto, the Danube River, and a cooking tour in Tuscany.
I hope to see you on a tour in 2006!
Cheers,
Pauline Ranieri

Norwegian Splendor with Professor Terje Leiren
July 23 - August 7, 2006
Join Terje Leiren, Professor of History and Scandinavian Studies, on "the world's most beautiful voyage," the Northbound Coastal Express along Norway's majestic western coastline, past bottomless fjords and tiny villages accessible only by boat. We will also visit delightful Bergen, ride the thrilling Flaam Railway, and tour the sparkling cities of Oslo and Helsinki.
Travel to Portugal with Special Guest UW Host Robb Weller!
Portugal/Sintra Alumni Campus Abroad
October 10 – 18, 2006
Explore Portugal's fascinating culture and rich heritage with Robb Weller. As a UW student, Robb Weller, '71, instilled school pride in thousands of Husky fans as a "yell leader" at athletic events. Thirty years later, he's still one of the University's best cheerleaders and is credited for inventing "The Wave" - a cheer that gets spectators on their feet and ripples through an entire stadium.
Discover the winding streets and palatial dwellings of Sintra. Get swept away to the seaside town of Cascais. Be lured by Lisbon and travel to the Fátima Shrine, Alcobaça Monastery and medieval Óbidos. Awake your taste to extraordinary wines in the exotic towns of Mafra and Colares. Finally, relax while gazing upon the whitewashed town of Arraiolos and intriguing walled city of Évora.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival
August 17 – 20, 2006
We invite you to join us for our annual trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Our home is the superb Ashland Springs Hotel, conveniently located just a few short blocks from the theaters. We'll attend three theatre performances; Merry Wives of Windsor, Cyrano de Bergerac, and the Two Gentlemen of Verona.
Treasures of Peru - UW Photo Albums
Two groups of UW alumni and friends recently traveled to South America and had an exciting time exploring the beautiful scenery and fascinating history of Peru. To view photos of our November trips, visit Peru Album #1 and Peru Album #2. We have another Treasures of Peru tour planned for November 6-16, 2006. There are still spaces available for this incredible trip.
