Hirabayashi, a UW student who eventually earned three degrees at UW, resisted the curfew imposed on anyone of Japanese descent. Later, he refused to report for the incarceration ordered by Executive Order 9066. Learn more.

Medal of Freedom
Medal of Freedom given to UW. On February 22, Susan Carnahan, widow of Gordon Hirabayashi, presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom awarded posthumously to Hirabayashi by President Obama in 2012. UW Provost Ana Mari Cauce accepted the Presidential Medal on behalf of the UW.

Stellar names in classical music part of collector's gift to UW Music Library. The works span about three centuries, from the very late 17th century to the end of the 20th century. The gift will nearly double the UW’s collection of printed rare music scores.

Grays Harbor Memories documentary online. A collection of recovered films from the 1920s and ’30s gives insight into the life and times of the small Washington communities in Grays Harbor County is now available to view at uwtv.org.

The Mountaineers
The Mountaineers photo albums online. The Mountaineers promoted the discovery, conservation and documentation of the "mountains, forests and watercourses of the Pacific Northwest." These online albums depict some of the first major expeditions of the Mountaineers, including the first major outing to Mt. Olympus in 1907. Learn more.
