UW Alums in Thailand Strengthen Ties
A growing pipeline of students from Thailand coming to the UW for graduate study has been the focus of Graduate School outreach efforts recently as part of an ongoing emphasis on internationalizing graduate education. Increased dialog with Thai educators, government officials and others has taken place at various levels, with results focusing on improving students' educational experiences.
An enthusiastic group of UW graduate alumni in Thailand showed visionary leadership in strengthening communication by inviting Vice Provost and Graduate School Dean Suzanne Ortega and Associate Dean Tom Gething to Bangkok for a series of meetings and events focusing on graduate education. In addition to a student recruitment event and productive meetings to discuss U.S.-Thailand faculty and student exchanges, more than 150 graduate alumni and others attended a banquet to celebrate the strong educational ties between Thailand and the UW. The event featured 2006 UW Alumnus of the Year – Thai Chapter Kraisi Karnasuta, Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, who spoke of his great appreciation for the education he received at the UW.
