Letter from the Dean
Dear Graduate Alumni and Friends:
Welcome to The Graduate School's spring issue of our Graduate Education E-Newsletter. As those first buds of spring begin breaking through new ground, the Graduate School is also developing efforts to break new ground to benefit graduate students, alumni and our broader community.
In this quarter's newsletter, you will find information on some of our distinguished alumni and students, as well as reports on various efforts we've spearheaded in the last few months. The Graduate School is forging a new path by expanding our interdisciplinary programs, Post-Doctoral Affairs Office, and alumni relations activities. You will continue to hear about these activities in this newsletter and other communication pieces. We look forward to sharing even more information with you as we increase our efforts to support, foster and engage our students, alumni and friends.
Our newest plans include efforts to reach out to our international alumni and friends. To this end I will be hosting a UW alumni and friends reception in Bangkok in October 2006 (more information to come). If you are currently living in Thailand, you may receive a letter inviting you to attend this exciting event. We are currently collecting contact information for UW alumni and friends located in Thailand. Please send us your contact information if you are interested in attending this event or finding out more information on the UW, at devo@grad.washington.edu.
SAVE THE DATE! We will also be visiting Shanghai and Beijing, China, October 12-16, to actively recruit Chinese students to attend the UW and to host alumni receptions in each city. More information will be available in future e-news editions.
You can help us in our mission to share stories about our students, alumni and friends by offering your own perspectives and letting us know where you are and what you are doing. These stories illustrate the impacts graduate education is having locally, nationally and globally. Please see our quick alumni/friend information survey at http://www.grad.washington.edu/supporting/Survey/default.htm. We look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for continuing your engagement with the University of Washington.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Ortega
