Better Caregiving for People Living with Dementia
Dr. Tatiana Sadak, ’08, ’11, UW School of Nursing

Over 5 million Americans live with dementia, a number expected to triple in the next 25 years. Family members often serve as caregivers for this population but have difficulty translating complex medical plans into practice. Tatiana Sadak, assistant professor of nursing, is working to change that.

Sadak will present the innovative approaches in development at the school’s de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging, UW’s top-ranked gerontology research center, to enable family caregivers to best implement health care providers’ treatment plans. She will be introduced by Azita Emami, dean of the UW School of Nursing.

Using Big Data to Improve Health at the Local Level
Dr. Cristian C. Baeza, Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation


Millions of lives are cut short or limited by disease and injury every year. Being able to pinpoint the major drivers of poor health is essential. Through leading-edge science, big data and collaboration with experts worldwide, the 
Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) provides a comprehensive, detailed picture of the world’s pressing health problems.

Dr. Cristian C. Baeza, director of Health System Solutions for IHME and UW professor of global health, will discuss the importance of IHME mapping of Burden of Disease for Global Health Aid and his extensive work on global health systems reform, advising more than 30 governments toward evidence-based health policy decision-making.
