Huskies in High Places - Johnson Toribiong
UW-educated lawyer Johnson Toribiong, ’72, ’73, was elected president of the island nation of Palau on Nov. 4, 2008. He took over from Presidsent Tommy Remengesau, who was required to step down after his second four-year term in office.
Toribiong is a prominent lawyer who previously served as Palau’s ambassador to Taiwan.
Palau, a nation of 20,000 people just east of the Southern Philippines, gained its independence in 1994, emerging from United Nations trusteeship administered by the United States.
