Join fellow Huskies to take a fascinating look into the shaky future of the West Coast. Large earthquakes are forecast for California and the Pacific Northwest in the not-too-distant future. Precisely when these earthquakes will occur remains uncertain, but a new system under development at Cal Tech, UC Berkeley and the University of Washington can provide warning seconds to minutes before strong shaking reaches you. Bill Steele, director of information services of the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network at the University of Washington, will discuss these predictions and the new technology he is helping develop. Presented by the UW College of the Environment and the UW Alumni Association.
Cost: $10
