Jeff’s Corner: Notes from the Geographic Trustee

Jeff Adams

Greetings to all of you, and happy summer! With the end of the school year here, it is a great time to reflect on what has been a very exciting year for both the University of Washington and the UWAA.

June 15 marked UW’s annual Commencement Ceremony, and 2019’s class of graduating seniors was impressive as ever. A select group was honored by being named to the Husky 100. These exceptional Huskies were recognized for making the most of their time on campus. This year, 29 students from outside the state of Washington received the honor, representing more than a dozen states.

We celebrated our very first Husky Giving Day on April 4. Huskies around the world contributed to the University of Washington to support its teaching, research and service. In an incredible display of Husky spirit, more than 4,000 gifts were made, and we raised nearly $1.6 million for UW. On behalf of the entire UW family, thank you for your generosity!

Looking forward to the summer months, we have a number of great activities on tap. Coming up on June 22, the DC Dawgs annual summer celebration has an exciting new venue! Red Bear Brewing Co. is one of D.C.’s newest breweries. It is owned and operated by Seattleites, including our own Cameron Raspet, ’15. If you are in the mid-Atlantic region, please be sure to join in the fun. On June 23, the NY Husky family is kicking off summer at their 46th annual Salmon BBQ! We will be celebrating Tri-State purple pride over authentic Pacific Northwest salmon at the home of Susan Bevan, ’76, and Tony Daddino. Additionally, back by popular demand, the Portland Summer Bash is ready to go on June 27! Our Portland Huskies will be at the BG Food Cartel for the second year in a row. All UW alumni, family and friends in the area are welcome at this popular event.

If you are interested in learning more about UWAA events, both in Seattle and outside of the Puget Sound region, please take a moment to visit the UWAA events website.

Finally, on a personal note, it is time to pack up the tents and ride away from Jeff’s Corner, as my term on the UWAA Board of Trustees has drawn to a close. It has been a tremendous honor to serve on your behalf for the past four years, and I have had an amazing time meeting many of you across the nation and around the world. Our remarkable University of Washington continues to achieve ever-increasing heights, which is a great tribute to all of our friends, students, faculty, staff, alumni and leadership. I will not even try to list all of the people with whom I have had the honor and privilege to meet and work with during my time on the UWAA Board, so please accept my deepest appreciation and gratitude – you have all given me a lifetime of pride, happiness, and memories in such a short time.

Of course, the party is not ending, and I look forward to seeing you at future events on campus, in Seattle, throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and points beyond. I am and will FOREVER be yours in purple and gold, and GO DAWGS!!!
