Interested in being a Student Career Trek host?
Thank you for your interest in being a host for a Student Career Trek!
The goal of this program is to expose students to different industries and careers and for alumni to provide them with feedback on how they can best position themselves as young professionals while embarking on their professional journeys.
WHEN WILL IT OCCUR?
We currently have three treks scheduled for spring 2020. The treks will take place March 22–25 and are traveling to the Bay Area, New York City and Denver.
Treks consist of two full days of visits touring 6-8 companies in the designated city. At each company visit, we ask an alum to host these students for about 1-2 hours. Students would love to hear and ask questions about your current role, background and experience. Also, if possible, they would appreciate a brief tour of your place of business. Visits can be structured to fit your needs and availability. We’ve seen success with a variety of formats including:
- Overview of the alum & company + open conversation
- Panel presentation + Q&A — this format can offer an opportunity to incorporate other UW alums if available but panelists don’t all have to be UW alumni. It is helpful if the panelists are diverse in terms of roles/responsibilities.
- Incorporation of a recruiter to offer a more official company overview & tour (if applicable)
WHO ARE THE STUDENTS?
The students will represent broad academic disciplines and have diverse career interests. While this Trek is interdisciplinary in nature, these students will have each reflected on and demonstrated concrete passions during the application process. They are intrigued to learn about many career paths, types of companies/organizations and advice for their remaining time at the UW and beyond. They are excited to meet with alumni as so that they can increase their Husky network, learn about careers, and experience the culture of your city first-hand.
