How can I find my friends to add to my network?
- To find friends, type their names in the "Find People" box at the top of every HuskyConnect page.
- Once you find your friends, click on the "Add as Friend" button. You will then see the invitation message that will be sent to the e-mail address for your friend stored in our database. You are encouraged to add a personal note in the text field, especially if it's someone you haven't spoken with in a while!
- If there is no e-mail address for your friend in our database, your request to connect will be delivered to your friend's HuskyConnect "inbox" (she or he won't see it until she or he logs into HuskyConnect). If you know an e-mail address for your friend, you can provide it and your invitation will be delivered to that e-mail address.
- As your friends receive your invitation e-mails, they will start responding and your network will start to grow.
- After you've invited friends, you can use HuskyConnect to send messages to your network, make professional connections like finding a contact at a specific company, sell a car, find tickets to an event - almost anything!
How can I use HuskyConnect to find a friend from college? Simply look them up in the Search box. Keep in mind that some people change their names or go by a nickname. If you don't have luck using the keyword search, try the Advanced Search function. With Advanced Search, you can look for someone by a number of criteria, including class year, major, city, etc.
Note about using Advanced Search: Currently, Advanced Searching on degree year searches only the preferred class year field. Currently, Advanced Searching on First Name searches only the first name field, and not the nickname field.
Search Tip: If you're not certain of a person's name, class year or degree, use the keyword "Find People" search box rather than Advanced Search.
Search Tip: To find everyone in a group of people, such as MBA class of 2006, use the keyword-based "Find People" search box. Type the exact degree name and the class year.
What if I can't find my friend?
Don't give up! First, consider whether your friend goes by a nickname. For example, you won't find Harry Husky if Harry's full name is Harold Husky. So, try searching by the full name or first or last name only (most effective if the person has a less common name).
Still can't find him or her? Use the Advanced Search function and use criteria like class year, major, etc. If the person you're looking for is a very recent graduate (within the past several months), it's possible the registrar hasn't updated his or her record yet. In that case, you're likely to find that person if you wait a month or so. In addition, if the person you are looking for did not complete their UW degree they most likely will not be listed in HuskyConnect. If you still can't find a person, e-mail the alumni association at help@HuskyConnect.com.
How can I invite my friends to join HuskyConnect if there is no e-mail address on file?
If we do not have an e-mail address in our database for your friend, you can still invite him or her to connect with you in HuskyConnect. You will be asked to provide an e-mail address for your friend. If you have one, type it in. Your invitation will be sent to that address, and your friend will be asked to confirm his or her identity when he or she clicks on the link in your invitation e-mail. If you do not have an e-mail address for your friend, your invitation will be waiting for your friend in the event that he or she at some point in the future logs into HuskyConnect.
Why isn't the number of friends in my network reported the same from place to place within HuskyConnect?
Due to the complexity of database indexes that underly HuskyConnect, there may be a delay of up to a day for the reported size of your network to "synch up" on all pages of HuskyConnect. Each time your network changes (for example, you add a new friend), the indexes will update and there may be a delay while the numbers "synch up."
Will my profile and friends network always stay on HuskyConnect?
Yes and No. HuskyConnect is a free service to UW degree-holding graduates regardless of their membership in the UW Alumni Association. Non-graduates may use HuskyConnect as long as they are current members of the alumni association. It is important to keep your membership activated to retain your profile and friends network. Non-graduate members of the alumni association who let their membership lapse can expect termination of their HuskyConnect profile/network at any time 30 days past their expiration date.
