Goodbye UW, Hello world!

In the weeks leading up to graduation, the UW Alumni Association was on hand to welcome the Class of 2019 as they flipped their tassels and moved into a special group of alumni: Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLDs). Here’s a quick review of all our activities; we hope you were able to join us.

Congrats, and welcome to the family!

2019_GradWeek_CoffeeDonuts_Inline_400x280#thanks Red Square was the place to be May 20, as UWAA handed out coffee, doughnuts and good vibes to seniors needing a mid-morning break. Grads added personal messages to the Class of 2019 banner, in addition to writing thanks to the people who inspired and supported them during their time on campus — UWAA took care of the postage and mailing. Adding to the fun? Everyone’s favorite prize wheel with Starbucks and IKEA gift cards, courtesy of our friends at BECU.

2019_GradWeek_GradsGolds_Inline_400x280Big Time. On May 22, young alumni and Class of 2019 grads headed to Big Time Brewery in the U District. A photographer was on hand to snap professional headshots, suitable for elevating your job-searching game on LinkedIn. But it wasn’t all business — free pizza, door prizes and the chance to relax with fellow Dawgs provided a much needed break for everyone. Stay tuned to learn about more networking opportunities throughout the year.

2019_GradWeek_MovieNight_Inline_400x280Star treatment. UWAA movie nights are always a favorite with our members. This year, Class of 2019 UWAA members were invited to join the Alumni Association for a sneak preview screening of Aladdin. And what a deal it was!  A $5 entrance fee covered the movie ticket, a free beverage and popcorn. Throw in a step and repeat photo booth and some one-on-one time with Harry, and you have one memorable night at the movies.

Cheers! More than 500 Seattle campus grads signed up for the June 12 Grad Toast. You may remember when your orientation leader told you the story of the Sylvan Grove columns: How the columns are almost all that remains of the original UW campus near downtown, saved from the wrecking ball and brought to the UW, where they stand today as a symbol of the connection all Huskies have with the University, the alumni who have gone before and those who will come in the future. Then you were invited to come up and touch each column. Then hands off until graduation. Held at Sylvan Grove, this event has become a campus tradition with hosted appetizers and drinks, a DJ and yard games.

2019_GradWeek_Gonfalonieres_Inline_400x280So much more than a funny name. As in years past, the UWAA lent a hand to the Office of Ceremonies by administering the Class of 2019 Gonfalonieres and Guardians of the Gonfalons. This program allows the University to showcase the brightest stars among the graduating seniors, while offering a meaningful volunteering opportunity for select alumni. Take a moment to read their stories.
