SIFF presents “The King”

June 3 & 4       5 p.m. (June 3) 3:45 p.m. (June 4)

SIFF Cinema Uptown Theater, 511 Queen Anne Ave N, Seattle, WA

Join the UWAA for the Seattle International Film Festival’s screening of The King, directed by notable filmmaker, Eugene Jarecki, and starring Alec Baldwin, Tony Brown, James Carville, Chuck D, Emmylou Harris, Mike Meyers and many more.

Forty years after the death of Elvis Presley, a musical road trip across America in his 1963 Rolls Royce metaphors the story of how a country boy lost his authenticity and became a king while his country lost her democracy and became an empire. The film covers issues of class, race, consumerism, addiction, and militarism among other subjects. American democracy up to this point in history is captured through the stories and voices of Americans across the country.

This is a Common Ground event. The UW Alumni Association alerts alumni to resources, events, and programming designed to challenge our thinking, encourage civic engagement and reflect statewide (or in this case, nationwide) perspectives. Join us at this film and consider how to best think critically, not comfortably.
