The Husky Union Building is getting an extreme makeover. In July, the UW Board of Regents approved a plan to fund the HUB Renovation and Expansion Project, a two-year undertaking that will completely overhaul the Seattle campus' main gathering spot. Last upgraded in 1975, the HUB houses a large cafeteria and dining area, and more than 700 student organizations.
Students voted in May to spend $128 million on the remodel, while the UW will contribute $20 million of its own to the project. The regents also approved up to $95 in student fees per quarter that will pay for the remodel while greenlighting additional renovations to Hall Health and the UW Ethnic Cultural Center. The student fee will be implemented in 2011 and remain in effect for 30 years.
