Check Out That Electric Bike

As of next fall, UW campus-crossers who are too tired to walk will have something two-tired to ride. As part of its effort to reduce pollution and discourage car-commuting, the University is purchasing a fleet of 40 electric bicycles from the Boulder, Colorado-based company Intrago. Students, faculty and staff will be able to check out the bikes from any of four stations around campus using a key-and-pin system. They run on people-power, but also have an electrical battery with a 25-mile range for folks who’d prefer not to pedal, or who just want a little extra help on the hills. The bike-sharing program will be the first of its kind at an American university.
