Who says a weekend at an island resort can’t be both physically relaxing and mentally invigorating? Join us this summer for “Conversations,” the UWAA’s exclusive new educational retreats. Each Conversation will bring 20 to 30 participants together with one of the shining stars of the UW faculty to discuss subjects both timely and timeless. The backdrop is the gorgeous IslandWood resort, a stunning 70,000 square foot “school in woods” on Bainbridge Island.

The first Conversations weekend, held June 2–4, will feature W. Lance Bennett, professor of communication and political science, discussing “A Democracy of One? Changing Citizen Identity and the Crisis of Politics.” For the second weekend, June 23–25, English Professor Kathleen Woodward will address technology, culture, aging and emotions in “I Feel, Therefore I Am: How Cultural Values Shape Our Emotions.”

Enrollment is limited, so make your reservations today by calling 1-800-AUW-ALUM or visiting <>. To learn more about IslandWood, go to <>.
