    Marion Ruth Broer, , professor emeritus of physical and health education, died June 30. An Ohio native, she taught at the UW from 1947-73. She authored six textbooks, including Introduction to Kinesiology and The Efficiency of Human Movement, a popular university text. She was 91.

    Donald G. Douglas, former assistant professor of speech, died Nov. 1. He taught at the UW from 1968-1976. He was 72.

    Clifford Donald Foster, '52, '57, professor emeritus of education, died Dec. 11. The Missouri native joined the UW faculty in 1953 and taught for 30 years. He also served as associate director of student teaching. He was 79.

    Ben-Joshua Jaffee, professor emeritus of social work, died Dec. 4. A native of Cleveland, he taught at the UW from 1967-90. He was 78.

    Ralph E. Julnes, '60, '63, director of the School Law Division in the UW College of Education, died Oct. 13. He also was legal counsel to the state superintendent of public instruction, executive director of the Joint Committee on Education for the Washington Legislature, and was a college professor in California and Alaska. He was 64.

    Silvia Elisabeth Kind, professor emeritus of music, died May 30. A native of Switzerland, she taught at the UW from 1967-78.

    Robert B. McMillen, a maritime industry leader who served on the UW Foundation board of directors and was chair of the Tyee Board, died Oct. 12. He was 67.

    Ralph Wells Moulton, '32, '34, '38, former chair of chemical engineering and a UW faculty member from 1941-1982, died Sept. 30. He was also faculty director of Graduate Center Affairs in Richland and dean of the Joint Center for Graduate Study. He was 90.

    Harry Dickson Patton, professor emeritus of physiology and biophysics, died May 26. He taught at the UW from 1947-83. He was 84.

    Featherstone Reid, '58, '61, '68, former senior aide to Sen. Warren G. Magnuson, '29, Gov. Booth Gardner, '58, and other state political leaders in a 40-year career in public service, died Oct. 20. He helped create the Washington State Basic Health Plan, implement Magnuson's legendary appropriations benefiting the Pacific NW, including the UW Health Sciences Center, Bremerton Naval Station and cleanup of Mount St. Helens. He also served as chair of the board of the UW School of Nursing. He was 73.

    Robert Elliot Street, professor emeritus of aeronautics and astronautics, died Oct. 5. He taught at the UW from 1948-80. He was 89.

    Arnold L. Towe, '53, professor emeritus of physiology and biophysics at the UW School of Medicine, died Oct. 8. His research focused on the nervous system, brain circuitry, cerebral cortex and mathematical modeling. A pioneer in his field, he held one of the longest-running grants in the history of the Natl. Inst. of Health. He taught at the UW from 1953-1994, and authored more than 200 publications. He was 75.

    Bart Vernon, '71, brother of late UWAA President Geoff Vernon, '65, died Sept. 20. He was a lifelong Husky football fan and worked in the publishing and print industry for more than 30 years. He was 55.
