ImageOccidental College Dean Kenyon S. Chan will become chancellor of UW Bothell on July 1, President Mark A. Emmert, ’75, and Provost Phyllis Wise announced in April. Chan served in 2005-6 as interim president of Occidental, a private college in Los Angeles. He has been dean of the college, vice president for academic affairs and professor of psychology since 2003. He is a three-time graduate of UCLA, where he earned his undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in sociology, special education and educational psychology. His academic career also includes eight years as chair and professor of the Asian American Studies Department at California State University, Northridge, and five years as dean at the Bellarmine College of Loyola Marymount University. Chan’s research focuses on the effects of race on the emotional development of children and factors that influence motivation, learning and schooling.
