Warm Ups Unite Huskies at Away Games, More Than 4,000 Fans Expected in Columbus

When the Husky football team plays on the road, legions of loyal fans follow the purple and gold wherever they go. But traveling fans have a home away from home, thanks to the Washington Warm Ups held before each road game.

Produced by the UW Alumni Association, Washington Warm Up tailgate parties are held three hours before kickoff (usually at a site adjacent to the home team's stadium). They feature food, beverages and a fun way for Husky fans to gather before the game. The Husky Marching Band and Cheer Squad always drop by for a rousing performance.

The highlight of the 2003 Husky football season will be the Aug. 30 season opener at Ohio State. More than 4,000 Husky fans are likely to travel to Ohio to attend the game against the defending national champions. And as many as 2,000 people are expected to attend the Washington Warm Up in Columbus, which will be held near the stadium on the Ohio State campus. Start time is three hours before kickoff.

The Warm Up before the Ohio State game will be so big that guests must pre-register (registration will begin in July; check UWalum.com or call 1-800-AUW-ALUM for the latest information). The entry fee covers an elaborate menu of all-you-can eat ribs, grilled chicken and all the fixings, access to a cash bar and all the Husky spirit you can handle.

But the road fun doesn't end after the Ohio State game. Washington Warm Ups will be held before road games against Pac-10 foes UCLA (Oct. 4), Oregon State (Oct. 18), Arizona (Nov. 8) and California (Nov. 15). The good news is that the Warm Up at Oregon State will be back at Prothro Field this year to provide more comfort and space for Husky fans.

Warm Ups-which are subsidized by UWAA membership fees, sponsorships and entry fees-cost just $5 for UWAA members and $10 for non-members for Pac-10 games, and feature food and beverage for sale.

Up-to-date information on the lineup of 2003 Washington Warm Ups can be found online at UWalum.com or by calling the UWAA in Seattle at (206) 543-0540 or 1-800-AUW-ALUM.
