An Administrators Fulbright Award was presented to Emily Christian, interim director of student services. She will travel to Germany and France in October to participate in the Fulbright Seminar for U.S. Administrators in International Education. She is UW Bothell’s fourth Fulbright winner this year.
June’s Commencement ceremony featured recycled graduation regalia. The gowns, provided by GreenWeaver, were made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles and reuse an average of 23 bottles each. With approximately 850 Bothell graduates wearing gowns in June, it meant nearly 20,000 bottles were diverted or removed from landfills.
The new Digital Future Lab will provide students an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on development experience while exploring a broad spectrum of digital media projects with faculty and industry partners. Formerly known as the Center for Serious Play, the lab focuses on digital platform development, game design, data visualization exploration, social media analysis, online brand design and multimedia performance pieces. To date, the lab is partnering with Microsoft and the USC School of Cinematic Arts to develop a wide range of digital media projects.
UWave Radio launched this summer to broadcast student-produced content on the Internet. UWave is now working to secure the start-up costs and 24-hour programming needed to earn an FCC license. Tune in at http://UWave.fm.
A new Veterans Archway on campus was dedicated this spring. The archway, located on the north end of campus adjacent to the sports and recreation complex was conceptualized by the UW Bothell chapter of the Student Veterans Association.
The new School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will be housed in the science and academic building that is scheduled for completion in 2014.
