From the Great Exposition of 1851 to the New York World's Fair of 1939-1940
Join us as UW Emeritus Professor Jon Bridgman explores the inspiration and impact of World's Fairs as he highlights four examples of these Expositions. Join him in exploring these cultural extravaganzas as representations of the
societies that created them. Did these Fairs have a purpose beyond providing entertainment for a mass audience? Do Fairs have a permanent impact of our society?

About Jon Bridgman
Professor Jon M. Bridgman has vividly brought the past to life for more than four decades. For 15 years, his public series of history lectures at the University of Washington attracted large audiences, consistently overflowing the University's largest lecture hall. Prof. Bridgman is a military historian specializing in world affairs of the World War II era. Bridgman earned a doctorate from Stanford University, joining the UW faculty in 1961. He has taught more than 25,000 students at the University of Washington and was one of the first recipients of UW's Distinguished Teaching Award.

Directions and Parking
The Washington State History Museum is located in downtown Tacoma at 1911 Pacific Avenue (View a map showing the location). From I-5 North or South take the City Center exit #133. Follow the I-705/City Center signs to 21st Street where you'll turn left, and then turn right onto Pacific Avenue. Get parking information on the Museum's site. The museum can be reached via Sound Transit buses. View a current bus schedule.
