Catherine Watters Is HMB's New Feature Twirler
High-flying Catherine Watters brings her twirling talents to the band this fall.
Incoming freshman Catherine Watters, of Santa Ana, Calif., has been named the bandís Feature Twirler for the upcoming 2008 season.
Catherine joins a long line of incredibly talented twirlers who have graced the Husky Stadium turf ever since Helen Basetti was introduced as the band’s first female “Drum Majoress” during the 1937 season.
Currently, Catherine holds the World Champion title for her achievements at the 2006 Gold Medalist USA National and World Baton Twirling Pairs Championship in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
In 2006, she was one of eight girls chosen from across the United States to represent the USA at the International Festival de Primavera in Trujillo and Lima, Peru.
She is also the reigning 2008 California State Senior Twirling and Strutting Champion and has held 21 California State and All-West Regional (including 8 western states) titles since beginning twirling at age 8.
Catherine plans to pursue a degree in journalism and/or dance when she starts her UW career this fall. And she’s equally excited about her other “field” work. “I can't wait to be a part of the Husky Marching Band family!! This is an incredible honor and opportunity for me!” she says.
Catherine replaces Amy Galbraith who graduated this past year after holding the position for the last five seasons.
