Graduate assistant director Gary Brattin
We are proud to welcome Gary Brattin to the Husky Band family. Gary joins the band as a graduate assistant director and is pursuing a doctorate of musical arts in wind conducting at the UW. A native of Denver, Gary currently holds a master of music degree in wind conducting and tuba performance from the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied with Kenneth Singleton and Benedict Kirby. Most recently, he was director of symphonic winds and athletic bands Fort Hays State University in Kansas. Previously, Gary lived in Taiwan for 10 years and is fluent in Chinese. An accomplished tuba player, he was principal tuba of the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, and Taipei Sinfonietta & Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he has been a band director at several high schools throughout Taiwan, and at Mahidol University in Salaya, Thailand. His professional memberships include the College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, World Association of Symphonic Bands & Ensembles, International Tuba Euphonium Association, International Trombone Association, and Pi Lambda Theta Fraternity. He is also an accomplished marching drill designer, guest artist and clinician. Welcome, Gary! |
