Spring 2007
Three New Faculty Members Join the Evans School
A recently-concluded faculty search process featured an impressive pool of candidates, each strong leaders in their respective fields of expertise. Three new faculty members will be joining the Evans School in the fall:
- Ann Bostrom comes to us from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where she is Associate Dean for Research and Associate Professor of Public Policy. Ann holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy Analysis from Carnegie Melon University.
- Joe Cook is finishing his Ph.D. in Environmental Management and Policy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
- Maria Damon is completing her Ph.D. in Economics at the University of California, San Diego.

Colonel Michael D. Brownell, ‘69
Michael retired from the Pentagon (Office of the Secretary of Defense) in 1995 after a total of 40 years of Army reserve and active duty. Prior to going on active duty, he worked on campus in the Staff Personnel Office and as Assistant Personnel Director for the City of Seattle. Nearly all of his career has been in the field of public personnel management, his major in the MPA program.
Lynn McKiernan Ngari, ‘01
Since returning from Guatemala in late 2003, Lynn has been working for King County Executive Services as their Grants Financial Officer. This gives her the opportunity to work with all County agencies on grant/assistance and compliance efforts and to see many of her fellow Evans alums in action! In September 2006, she and her husband, Joseph Ngari, were married and had a great honeymoon in Brazil.
Mauldin Bronwyn, ‘98
Mauldin recently set up shop as an independent consultant, based in Los Angeles. Most of her work is in workforce development and her areas of expertise are 1. Outcomes and evaluation systems; 2. Sara E. Levin, ‘99
After six years with the City of Seattle Department of Finance working for Dwight Dively, Sara is leaving the budget policy world and moving to the human services policy arena. In her new role, she will be the Director of External Relations and Legislative Affairs for the City of Seattle’s Human Services Department. She looks forward to reconnecting with the nonprofit world and helping to impact legislation related to human services.
Rebecca Frestedt, ‘05
Becki Frestedt accepted a position with the City of Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods Historic Preservation Division in December 2006. She is serving the Chinatown International District and Columbia City neighborhoods as the Board Coordinator for the International Special Review District and Columbia City Review Committee.
Keith H. Klegman, ‘77
Keith recently joined the Boeing Company as a Human Resources Generalist in Long Beach, California. He is in its Global Mobility System, Integrated Defense Systems Division.
Christine Rolfes, ‘91
In a “stunning victory,” Christine Rolfes now holds the Position 2 seat in the 23rd Legislative District. Read more...

UPDATE FROM THE NANCY BELL EVANS CENTER ON NONPROFITS & PHILANTHROPY

This past fall, Center Director, Associate Dean, and Professor of Public Affairs, Steven Rathgeb Smith, began a two-year term as president of ARNOVA, the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action.
February saw the launch of our inaugural Pacific Northwest Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute. Envisioned and led by Cory Sbarbaro and former Evans School staff Janna Rolland, this five-day residential program, offered in conjunction with the Cascade Center for Public Service and Leadership, aimed to help our region’s nonprofit executives expand their visionary thinking, capitalize on internal and external forces, and maintain their organizations’ stability and effectiveness. Professor Paul Hill Awarded Fordham Prize for Distinguished Scholarship
Paul T. Hill has been named one of two recipients of this year's Fordham Prize for Distinguished Scholarship from the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation. The prize is conferred annually on "scholars who made major contributions to education reform via research, analysis, and successful engagement in the war of ideas." Read more...
