“The Future of Public Education in Big Cities” 3:00 p.m.
The Evans School’s Center on Reinventing Public Education Director explores today and tomorrow’s issues in education. Why are people in Seattle and other big cities so concerned about their public schools? Is the achievement gap between poor and middle class children as bad as claimed? Are families who care a lot about education abandoning public schools? Are programs like No Child Left Behind and charter schools likely to make the situation better or worse?
Norman Rice
"Transportation: Where are we going?" 4:00 p.m.
Evans School Distinguished Practitioner in Residence and former City of Seattle mayor will share his experience as a Governor appointed co-chair of the Regional Transportation Committee. This nine member commission was given the charge to develop a proposal for a regional transportation governing entity, and to develop a comprehensive regional transportation finance plan.
Networking Reception 5:00 p.m.
Alumni and friends join Dean Sandra Archibald for an update on the state of the school.
