You can’t manage it if you don’t know what it costs. Managers often need to be familiar with the financial condition and structure of their organizations for day-to-day decisions. They need to be aware of the nature and behavior of costs so that they can use appropriate ones in the type of decision-making that relies on the use of cost data. Key decisions that use cost data are adding/eliminating programs, providing vs. contracting for services, and pricing programs and services. Key objectives of this course include: understanding and using internal financial data, defining costs appropriate for the decisions at hand, determining the nature and behavior of costs in an agency, department or organization, learning how to be proactive rather than reactive and knowing whether proposed solutions will really solve a specific problem.
