Problems we encounter with others, on the job and elsewhere, present immediate obstacles and threaten long-term loss. Resolving the problem while maintaining the relationship is a critical challenge we frequently face with peers, subordinates, and superiors, as well as family and friends. How we communicate with them can make or break our efforts to reach a satisfactory outcome.
Communicating skillfully requires attention to patterns and choices we fall into without thinking, and the application of straightforward but powerful techniques. Taking a step beyond the introduction of basic skills, this course provides practice in effective self-assertion, active listening, and managing conversation with extensive feedback from peers and coaches, plus opportunity to reflect on personal interactive style and take specific steps toward communicating skillfully in the real world.
Please note that the communication skills sessions presented in "Managing People to Improve Programs" are not a prerequisite for this course. If you have attended those sessions, this course is an excellent opportunity to further advance your skills.
