New Faculty Named: Craig Thomas
Craig Thomas will be joining our faculty as Associate Professor starting Fall Quarter, 2006. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and Center for Public Policy and Administration at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Thomas' scholarship focuses on public management and administration with a particular interest in environmental policy implementation. He is the author of Bureaucratic Landscapes: Interagency Cooperation and the Preservation of Biodiversity (2003, MIT Press) and numerous articles on inter-organizational collaboration and environmental management. This is something of a coming home for Thomas—he earned his bachelor's degree in International Studies from the University of Washington. He received his M.P.P. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Associate Dean Smith Elected President of ARNOVA
Steven Rathgeb Smith, professor and associate dean, has been elected president of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). He will serve a two-year term as president, commencing in November 2006. Previously, he served for seven years as the editor of its academic journal, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), one of the leading journals in nonprofit studies, philanthropy and volunteerism. Founded in 1971, ARNOVA is an international association of scholars and researchers committed to building and strengthening research on nonprofit organizations and philanthropy. (www.arnova.org)
Faculty Granted Tenure: Rachel Garshick Kleit and Stephen Page
Rachel Garshick Kleit and Stephen Page have both been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and granted tenure by the Provost's Office, effective September 16, 2006.
