Evans School Partnerships Aid Disaster Recovery
Recent articles in the Seattle Times and in UW's Columns Magazine highlight how key factors have aligned for the UW to strengthen its role in improving disaster relief efforts at home and abroad. Interdisciplinary efforts involve the Evans School's Marc Lindenberg Center for Humanitarian Relief, International Development and Global Citizenship, the Center for Internet Studies, and the College of Engineering as well as various relief agencies, such as the Northwest's Mercy Corps. The academic efforts are a significant step to help "professionalize" a field to which natural disasters in the past year - the Tsunami in Indonesia, Hurricane Katrina, and the most recent Earthquake in Pakistan - have drawn considerable attention.
