FROM THE PRESIDENT

What a great year to be a UW forestry graduate! Your enthusiasm and participation in the UW Alumni Association is making my time as your President a true pleasure. (If you are receiving this newsletter, but have not yet joined UWAA, please don't delay any longer. We welcome your support.)

Thanks to the financial support of the community and the volunteer efforts of faculty, students, alums and friends, we were able to bring back Arbor Day Fair April 20 and 21, 2006. It was a huge success and very rewarding for everyone involved. I look forward to an even bigger event in 2007. As soon as we have the dates, we will get them to you. Nothing matches helping grade schoolers, their teachers and parents get a hands-on forest science experience.

As they have nine times before, College of Forest Resources' alumni, faculty, staff and students have teamed up to provide a tremendous educational program about forestry and natural resources for over 2,000 grade-school students. Hands-on presentations covered various topics, including papermaking, tree identification, wildlife, how a tree grows, wood products, recreation, forest soils, the hydrologic cycle and many others.
